It’s been sometime I logged in to write something. So decided writing on Dasavatharam. And this is definitely not a review. I have come across hundreds. Just wanted to share what I felt about after watching a movie. First appreciation (and all the appreciation) goes to Dr.Kamalhasan for having guts to come up with a story like this in Kollywood and Tollywood.Both Chaos theory and butterfly effect would be little difficult to understand even if you learn it from Wikipedia. But he has succeeded in making a major chunk of people understand. Those Ten roles… mind blowing. I think Kamal himself has dubbed for all the roles. Just think about the difficulty the whole unit would have come across when they had to re-shoot the same scenes since they need to shoot atleast 2 kamalhasan in the major portion of the film. And the issues he had actually discussed apart from the main story line are an instance of Kamal’s brilliance. He points out “Manal Mafia”, “Dumbness of Bush” etc… The story line is simple and sensible. He tries to prove the Chaos theory and the butterfly effect theory. Simple as that. Still I can see lots of reviews stating that there is no strong story line. Probably they expect some family sentiments and same old story of twists and turns in love and life. We people appreciate films like “Babel”, “Crash” because you never know about those directors and when someone from our own country tries it, we negate it. Kamal is one among very few people who are aware of international film making standards and he tries taking Indian films to the next level. Virumandi is one such film where he blends our cultural richness and a very intelligent new way of story-telling but we don’t see the big picture and point out that the name ”Sandiyar” creates “Kalachara Seerazhivu”(meaning the name hurts the cultural sentiment). In short, even if the film has some hiccups like kamal(govind Ramasamy) escapes from Flitcher at least a dozen of times by jumping from the bridge, the film has to be received on a positive note since it will definitely act as a strong catalyst in taking our film industry to the next level.

காலி புல்லா நன்றியுள்ளவர் போல், நல்லவர் போல் காட்டப்பட்டாலும், அடிப்படையில் மடயன் மாதிரி காட்டிவிட்டார்.
காலிபுல்லா பாத்திரமும், சீனாக்காரர் பாத்திரமும் அவசியமே இல்லாதவைகள்.
அமெரிக்காவில் விஞ்ஞானி என்றாலும், அங்கேயும் திருட்டுக் கும்மளாக இந்தியர்களே இருப்பதை இப்படம் தெளிவாக்கியுள்ளது. பணத்திற்காக எதையும் செய்பவன் இந்தியன் என்பதை இப்படம் காட்டியுள்ளது. தீவிரவாதியுடன் என்றாலும் கைக்கோர்த்துக்கொள்ளும் இந்திய அடிப்படைக் கொள்கையையும் காட்டுகிறது.
ஆனால் வெறுமனே இந்தியாவில் காண்போரையெல்லாம் தீவிரவாதி தீவிரவாதி எனும் பைத்தியக்காரத்தனத்தையும் இப்படம் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது.
அது அமெரிக்க CIA என்றாலும் சரி, விஞ்ஞான கமல் என்றாலும் சரி, முஸ்லீம் கமல் என்றாலும் சரி, எல்லோரையும் நாயுடு தீவிரவாதி தீவிரவாதி என்று எந்த ஆய்வும் இன்றி மனம் போனபோக்கில் கூறும் இந்தியாவின் அடிப்பட்ட மடமையையும் இந்த படம் காட்டியுள்ளது.
எப்படியோ கமல் சில இடங்களில் சில வற்றை மறைமுகமாக சொல்லியுள்ளார்.
The problem(as others see)with Kamal Hasan is himself. You definitely need ‘a lot’ more to understand Kamal. As of today, i don’t think even one can understand his brilliance completely.
You have spoken ‘escaping from Fletcher’ as a hiccup – but if you observe correctly, in all the instruments that was used to escape (be it the lorry’s rear at first, the bus which pulls kamal and asin along, the lorry in which kamal travels), has either “Sri Ramajayam” written on it , or there will be ‘Lord Krishnan’s photo’. All these were done deliberately….
Is kamal an atheist…?? Is he trying to say that it is God who saves him, even though he is a non-believer..?? Or what is the need of those deliberate scenes..?
Its called Kamal’s brilliance…!!!
I would only say “Be proud that you had a chance to live in the same ages of Kamal”.

What nonsense guys… A guy makes a film just to prove a point that “HE CAN” and to prove his acting skills cannot be called a legend. All these chaos thoery, butterflyu effect & that all the vehicles having Krishna’s photo or name is mere coiincidence and nothing else… Just trying to make this movie a legend. I accept that Kamal is a genius when it comes to acting. But is a not a very great filmmaker… Except for some films.. You can never compare Babel or a crash to this movie.. In those movies the film did not go around a single man and did not have a motive to promote an actor as it is in Dasavatharam.. $ of the roles seemed unwanted and was just pushed into to score ten roles to beat Shivaji’s 9. But little did Kamal know that an actor named Rolf Leslie had already done 27 roles in a movie in 1913.
